Si intende organizzare una conferenza sul tema della pratica transumante nella sub-regione dell’Umbria sud-orientale. Le relazioni frontali saranno arricchite dalla proiezione di un documentario sulle caratteristiche attuali della vita pastorale nella zona.
In Umbria, transhumance reached its peak between the 14th and 15th centuries. Over time, however, the spread of new farming methods and the use of motor vehicles have had a profound effect on this practice. Indeed, transhumance is now largely abandoned. In the conference, therefore, some new cartographic studies will be the subject of discussion: the routes taken by shepherds from Umbria to the Maremma or the Agro Romano will allow us to understand the reasons why they preferred to head towards the Tyrrhenian area rather than the Adriatic. Other speeches will highlight the opportunities that the mountainous environment of south-eastern Umbria continues to offer for sheep farming, enriched by the projection of a documentary film. Cheese production, in fact, is still an important part of the local primary sector. The conference, therefore, aims to investigate its tourism potential and the weight of the previous pastoral tradition.
Objectives:
Con la conferenza si vogliono illustrare le caratteristiche attuali della vita pastorale in Umbria, il peso della tradizione nella conduzione delle attività e le potenzialità della produzione casearia e nella prospettiva economica-produttiva e in quella turistica.
Il dibattito intorno agli studi cartografici, poi, aiuterà a comprendere le ragioni storiche della preferenza, da parte dei pastori umbri, del versante tirrenico per svolgere la pratica transumante.
