The participants of the lecture will rediscover, through old maps, the social, economic, and political processes of the great geographical discoveries. The presentation covers the fascinating and exciting period from the late 15th century to the first half of the 16th century, when the Portuguese sailed around Africa, while Columbus, under the commission of the Spanish king, reached the unknown part of the Indies by sailing west. But why did Europeans want to go there? Why were explorers and sailors willing to risk their lives? Who exactly made these discoveries, and what did they actually discover? And why was there uncertainty about whether the New World was an island or a continent?/ Az előadás résztvevői a régi térképeken keresztül újra felfedezik a nagy földrajzi felfedezések társadalmi, gazdasági és politikai folyamatait. Az előadás a 15. század végétől a 16. század első felig terjedő érdekes és izgalmas időszakot mutatja be, amikor a portugálok Afrika körülhajózásával, miközben a spanyol király megbízásából Kolumbusz nyugati úton eléri az Indiák ismeretlen részét. De miért akartak az európaiak odamenni? Miért vállalták akár az életveszélyt is a felfedezők és hajósok? Ki és mit fedezett fel tulajdonképpen?
