The geography of food assistance in Turin: the engagement of the territory in the redistribution of food and the redifinition of solidarity

This event aims to bring together key actors involved in food assistance and food surplus redistribution. To create a moment to foster dialogue, create synergies, and engage the territory in the face of pressing social and economic challenges, like food poverty.

The first part of the event will present recent research findings, to disseminate on the spatial, social, and economic implications of food surplus collection and redistribution in the city. This moment will serve as a starting point for confrontation and debate with territorial actors, concerning the available data and the emerging configurations of the Turin food assistance system. An additional highlight will be the exploration of First Life, a social network for participatory mapping, that can serve as a tool for connecting actors and visually representing their presence and interactions across the territory.

Following this, an open discussion stage will provide a space for associations, researchers, and other stakeholders to exchange experiences and perspectives. The event will conclude with a collaborative session aimed at bridging the gap between academic research and real-world practices, ensuring that the voices and insights of those working directly in the field contribute to the co-production of knowledge and effective strategies.
