MAPpresentare il Gargano – carte antiche originali
Description:
The cartographic exhibition of original antique maps from the 16th to the 19th century, the result of Father Stefano De Luca’s expert cultural reconstruction, is a collection of antique maps covering Magna Graecia, the Kingdom of Naples, Apulia, Capitanata and the Gargano. It consists of original specimens taken from the main works of the most famous cartographers and engravers, such as: Gastaldi, Münster, Mercator, Ortelius, Janssonius, Bleau, Cellarius, Magini, CassianoDeSilva, Pacichelli, Zatta, Cassini, Rizzi-Zannoni, Marzolla and many others.
The event consists of an itinerant interview-narrative that starts with the traces of Roman cartography that have survived in the medieval Tabula Peutingeriana (with a replica on canvas reproducing the entire 6-metre roll), and continues with 16th-century printed cartography, 17th-century maps (including some original plates), 18th-century cartography (including some original engravings) and 19th-century cartography, as well as an appendix of rare maps of the Holy Land.
