What does Geography study? Is it considered a STEM discipline? Have there been outstanding female geographers in history? Who were the first female geographers? Is the feminine presence prominent in today’s Geography?All these questions are answered in the exhibition “Women Geographers and Science” and in the broadcast of the I Scientific Meeting of young female geographers held on February 9th at the University of Alicante, Spain, on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

 

Main objectives:

General purpose:- Publicise geography as a science, with special attention to the contributions of female geographers.
More specific objectives:
– educate about the contributions of the first female geographers
– draw attention to the masculinization of the geographic science
– contribute to awakening of new vocations for geographical science among the youngest generations
– make visible the research of young geographers
