Migrant squatting: from a militant approach to a critical writing

Description:

The event is organized around the presentation of the book “The Properties of an Occupation. An Ethnography of the Ex MOI, Turin, 2013-19”. The author will illustrate the experience of a housing occupation in the heart of Turin, focusing on the manifold agencies of migrants who settled there: to impose themselves on the anxious and inconstant (if not hostile) attention of local authorities; to inspire the formation of political collectives with vicarious, compensatory and supplementary roles for institutions; to activate an imperfect support to the mobility of others coming in the wake of them. The book highlights the multifarious and conflicting geographies of solidarity, the struggle for the spaces within the occupation and the segmentary commons organized by occupants.
