Short presentation of the event: Since the beginning of the 21st century, the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz has grown out of proportion to its population. For this reason, its commitment to sustainability based on a development of green infrastructures and a sustainable mobility policy clashes with the urban model adopted in recent decades. Through maps and photographs, we will analyze the urban development of the city and some factors that may be leading to a less sustainable and more socially segregated city. In essence, this talk aims to delve into the urban geography of the city.

Presentación resumida del evento: Desde principios del siglo XXI, la ciudad de Vitoria-Gasteiz ha crecido de forma desproporcionada con respecto a su población. Por ello, su apuesta por la sostenibilidad basada en un desarrollo de infraestructuras verdes y una política de movilidad sostenible choca con el modelo urbano adoptado en las últimas décadas. A través de mapas y fotografías, analizaremos el desarrollo urbano de la ciudad y algunos factores que pueden estar conduciendo a una ciudad menos sostenible y más segregada socialmente. En esencia, esta charla pretende profundizar en la geografía urbana de la ciudad.

Objectives: The talk aims to be very visual, making the presentation through thematic maps that allow acquiring a spatial view of the analyzed phenomena. After the talk, we will open a round of discussion among the participants.
