Serata di geografia astronomica e sociale
L’evento è finalizzato a celebrare la Notte Internazionale della Geografia attraverso una osservazione astronomica, ovvero una diretta della volta celeste proiettata in diretta sul maxischermo e aperta a tutto il pubblico partecipante. Ai piedi del massiccio di Campo dei Fiori, nel suggestivo Campus universitario di Bizzozero, questo gemellaggio fra la geografia terrestre e la geografia astronomica intende offrire una occasione di riflessione sulla storia e sulle storie della presenza umana nello spazio, ed anche una opportunità per riprendere la vita sociale dopo mesi di incertezza, come dichiara con malcelato ottimismo il titolo dell’evento. La serata è aperta gratuitamente a tutta la cittadinanza e prevede 1) la proiezione commentata di un docufilm sulla conquista umana dello spazio, 2) una tavola rotonda sulla storia e sulle storie della colonizzazione umana dello spazio extra-atmosferico, 3) un frugale rinfresco di ristoro e socializzazione, 3) l’osservazione diretta della volta celeste attraverso i telescopi dell’Osservatorio Astronomico Schiapparelli di Varese. L’evento è organizzato in collaborazione con il Dipartimento di Scienze Teoriche e Applicate dell’Università dell’Insubria (DiSTA), l’Osservatorio Astronomico G. V. Schiaparelli – Campo dei Fiori di Varese, l’Associazione Italiana Insegnanti di Geografia di Varese, il Corso di laurea in “Storia e storie del mondo contemporaneo” dell’Università dell’Insubria, e con il patrocinio dell’Università degli Studi dell’Insubria e del Comune di Varese.

The event is aimed at celebrating the International Geography Night by means of an astronomical observation, i.e. a live broadcast of the vault of heaven projected onto a giant screen and open to all the participating public. At the foot of the Campo dei Fiori massif, in the evocative Bizzozero University Campus, this twinning of terrestrial and astronomical geography aims to offer an opportunity to reflect on the history and stories of human presence in space, and also an opportunity to resume social life after months of uncertainty, as the title of the event declares with ill-concealed optimism. The evening is open free of charge to all citizens and includes 1) the commented projection of a docufilm on the human conquest of space, 2) a round table on the history and stories of human colonisation of outer space, 3) frugal refreshments and socialising, and 3) direct observation of the celestial vault through the telescopes of the Schiapparelli Astronomical Observatory in Varese. The event is organised in collaboration with the Department of Theoretical and Applied Sciences of the University of Insubria (DiSTA), the Astronomical Observatory G. V. Schiaparelli – Campo dei Fiori of Varese, the Italian Association of Geography Teachers of Varese, the Degree Course in “History and Stories of the Contemporary World” (with the patronage of the University of Insubria and the Municipality of Varese).
